COVID-19 contingency plans

COVID-19 Supplementary Information for Guests

This new protocol is for the safety of everyone: you and your family, but also the health and safety of our staff and their families, as well as of other guests. All guests staying with CasaTrigoso will have to confirm that they have read and understood this document. If you have any questions, please let us know.

Cleaning and disinfection

  • To ensure proper cleaning and disinfection, we are no longer doing same-day check in/out. Additionally, no early check ins or late check outs will be considered. This means that all check outs must be completed by 11:00 and that check ins cannot be done before the 16:00.

  • All surfaces will be cleaned as usual, and heavy-use areas will be thoroughly disinfected: kitchen countertops, bathrooms, door handles, light switches, lockbox, etc.

Preparing your trip

  • As always, we recommend that guests purchase travel insurance so that they are fully covered in the event of cancellation and trip interruption.

  • Bring masks for yourself and your family members. Many places in Portugal require that you wear masks indoors and it is considered socially responsible and good civic behaviour to wear masks outdoors.

  • In Lagos you can also purchase masks, alcohol gel and other necessary prevention items.

  • Because of the need to report any possible cases of COVID-19 to the health authorities, it is crucial that you or someone in your party have a mobile phone that works in Portugal. If you or someone in your party becomes ill, we have a protocol in place to isolate the suspected case and help you as much as we can.

Upon check-in

  • We will keep operating on a self-check-in basis. This means that you will receive our welcome pack with instructions and a code which you will use to remove the key from the lockbox. You will then let yourselves in.

At CasaTrigoso

  • All apartments have soap dispensers, please wash your hands well immediately upon entering the apartment.

  • All books and magazines, as well as rugs and decorative pillows have been removed. We realise these items make the apartments ‘homier’, but they are also potential problem spots for infection and are difficult to clean and disinfect.

  • The apartments have been cleaned and disinfected to the best of our abilities, but please also take care to keep you and your family safe. Each apartment will contain a cleaning kit (disinfectant spray and new sponge) which you can use to periodically clean heavy-use spots such as door handles and light switches.

  • If there is any problem with the apartment that requires assistance either from a member of our staff, they will only enter with your permission, and everyone who is in the same room should wear a mask. In entering any apartment that is currently occupied, staff will be wearing a mask, gloves, and shoe covers.

  • Consider keeping at least one window open in each room so that the air can circulate. To keep the apartment cool in the summer heat, lower the blinds about halfway.

  • When on the property, do not linger in common areas longer than necessary. Please maintain social distancing: keep any visitors to your apartment to an absolute minimum and that you do not visit other guests or have them visiting your apartment.

  • Consider leaving all shoes at the door.

Checking out

  • In each bedroom closet you will find at least two large trash bags: a black bag for bedding and bath towels, and a yellow/white bag for beach towels.

    • Black bag: add bedding and bath towels (including any unused items). Bedding includes bed sheets, duvet covers (duvets go in purple bag), pillow cases, as well as pillow and mattress protectors. Tie the bag, ensure it is properly closed and leave it in the bedroom.

    • Purple bag: add beach towels and duvets (including any unused items). Tie the bag, ensure it is properly closed, and leave it in the bedroom.

  • Dispose of all trash (including recyclables) in the proper containers in the square.

  • Do not leave any food in the fridge or on the kitchen counters.

  • Unless there is an obvious chance of rain, please leave one window open in each room so that air can circulate.

  • Leave the key in the lockbox and scramble the code.

In the event that you or someone in your party has symptoms of COVID-19

  • Make the necessary phone calls: call the SNS24 health line on 808242424 and then call/Whatsapp us.

  • Depending on what the health authorities advise, you and/or your group may need to self-isolate and await further instructions. Depending on the circumstances and our calendar availability, you will have to either isolate in the apartment you are currently in or in a separate isolation apartment we have set up on the property or, if neither of these options are available, then on another property.

  • If we have availability and you would like to extend your stay in our apartments for whatever reason, the same per-night rate as your current booking will apply. Depending on calendar availability, you may exceptionally be asked to self-isolate on another property, in which case their rates and regulations will apply.

  • Our isolation apartment is a studio apartment with a bathroom and kitchenette. It is further equipped with a kit containing alcohol gel, masks, a thermometer, and some non-perishable food. Use of the isolation apartment may have additional associated costs.

  • If this is a confirmed case of COVID-19 and in the unlikely scenario you are unable to self-isolate anywhere but your booked apartment, then you will be liable for the full rental costs of any additional bookings we have to cancel in order to extend your booking. If we have to hire a company to remove hazardous bio waste, then these charges will be passed on to you.
